Nadia was born in 2014 and is the youngest of 5 children. The family story is so sad. Her mom lost her parents in the genocide at the age of 7 and went to live with her aunt. The living conditions at her aunts was so bad that she went to live on the streets at the age of 9. Nadia’s mom had 5 children through 2 abusive relationships and now tries to raise Nadia and the other children by herself. Some days Nadia’s mom earns as little as 35 cents and is unable to provide food for her children and a suitable place to live. Kevine's story is heartbreaking. Her mom died when Kevine was a baby, and her stepmother despised her. She was kept as a slave and beaten severely from ages 4 to 9. When Shelter Them rescued her, she had serious wounds on both legs and was traumatized from the abuse. Through Shelter Them, she is now receiving counselling for her psychological problems stemming from years of abuse. Olivia is mentally and physically disabled. She probably has Cerebral Palsy, but her smile lights up the world. A disability in a third world country can be a death sentence but for Olivia it may have saved her life. After donating a wheelchair to her we discovered her life of poverty and in December 2012 we rescued her and her family, brought them into our program and put them in a proper home. This beautiful girl is in urgent need of your help. Laurence was born in 2004, the second of 5 children. Her father left the home when she was only 3. She came crying to the Shelter Them office asking only for school materials. The Shelter Them team sensed her deep sorrow and followed up on her history. Her oldest brother was very sick and neither of the other children were able to attend school because there is not enough money for school fees and materials. There is very little food and the home is in desperate need of repairs. For just $ 40 a month Laurence can attend school and you can turn her sorrow into joy

Shelter Them was able to provide Kevine with a loving home, and she has now completed Primary school and is doing very well. Rachael lives in one of the poorest districts of Rwanda, Bugesera District. Their home is also desperate need of repairs. Despite Rachael’s age she is only in level primary 3. Khesian was born in a family of 8 to parents who were peasant farmers. Her brother, Jean Claude, left home at the age of 9 to       live on the streets of Kigali because his parents were unable to feed him and send him to school. He joined our Shelter Them family in 2012 and since then he had excelled in school and had become a role model to all his peers. In August 2016 he passed away from a sudden illness. Your sponsorship of Khesian would make Jean Claude’s dying wish come true and enable Khesian access to nutritious food, education and health care

Sandrine Bayisenge   Born in 2014

Days after giving birth to this baby girl, the mother ran away from the hospital.  An unsuccessful search was made to find Bayisenges mother, who suffers from mental illness. Shelter Them was soon contacted by local authorities and asked us to take this baby to join the Mugisha Home. We gave her the name Sandrine and brought her to the hospital for a checkup.  To our surprise she was HIV +.  Now she can grow in a stable family and be cared for the way a child needs
